Focus and Scope

The objective of the Revista de Estudios Regionales y Mercado de Trabajo (ISSN 2796-9851) is to address a relatively unexplored thematic intersection in our country, disseminating theoretical and empirical studies that open a space for academic debate and reflection on these issues, contributing to a more systematic and rigorous approach to regional and socio-environmental problems.

Revista de Estudios Regionales y Mercado de Trabajo (ISSN 2796-9851) is a biannual publication (April and October) of the Labor Market Information System (SIMEL), jointly published by SIMEL and CIMeCS (Interdisciplinary Center for Social Science Methodology)—part of the IdIHCS (CONICET-UNLP)—which publishes original and unpublished articles related to urban and regional development in Argentina and Latin America within the context of global processes.

The Labor Market Information System (SIMEL) aims to support the planning of public and private policies related to labor and employment by providing and disseminating studies on the dynamics of regional labor markets and their socioeconomic impact, for both academic researchers and decision-makers. SIMEL comprises an inter-university network of research centers from National Universities across the country that study the economic and socio-labor issues of their respective areas of influence.

Historical Overview

Until issue number 11, in 2015, the print journal Revista de Estudios Regionales y Mercado de Trabajo (Journal of Regional Studies and the Labor Market) was a joint publication of the SIMEL Network and CEUR (Center for Urban and Regional Studies - CONICET). From the third issue onward, CIPSA acted as the Responsible Editor, holding the intellectual property rights. Issue 12/13 was the last in print and was published by the SIMEL Network.

Starting with issue 14, a new stage begins; the magazine becomes a semi-annual and digital publication jointly edited by SIMEL (Labor Market Information System) and CIMeCS (Interdisciplinary Center for Social Science Methodology FaHCE-UNLP).

Peer Review Process

In the Submissions menu, you will find the guidelines for submitting material to the Journal. Submissions are preliminarily reviewed by the editors to determine if the topics align with the journal's stated scope. If they do not meet this requirement, the submissions are rejected. If the initial review is positive, two external peer reviewers specializing in the field are selected to assess the quality of the work. The journal uses a double-blind peer review system (the anonymity of both authors and reviewers is maintained). The steps are detailed in section 11 of the Submissions tab.

Open Access Policy

The journal is published under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License. The material may be shared (copied and redistributed) and adapted (remixed, transformed, and used to create new works), provided that: a) the authorship and original source of publication (journal, publisher, and URL of the work) are cited; b) it is not used for commercial purposes; and c) the same license terms are maintained.

The assignment of non-exclusive rights implies the authors' authorization for the work to be deposited in the UNLP's institutional repositories (SEDICI and Memoria Académica) and disseminated through the databases that the editors deem appropriate for indexing, with the aim of increasing the visibility of the publication and its authors.

Our institution promotes and supports the Open Access movement for scientific and academic literature. Their publications have no charges for authors or readers, encouraging authors to deposit their contributions in other institutional and thematic repositories, with the certainty that culture and knowledge are a good for everyone.

Data Availability Policy

The Revista de estudios regionales y mercado de trabajo promotes transparency and reproducibility of published research so that other researchers can replicate the studies described in its articles, in accordance with the provisions of National Law 26.899 on Open Access Institutional Digital Repositories. Research data submitted to this publication must be made available in SEDICI to increase compliance with the FAIR principles. Authors are encouraged to deposit data in SEDICI, or any other research data repository (such as FigShare, Mendeley Data, or Zenodo), before submitting their contribution to the journal. This way, when submitting the article, only the URL where the research data is located needs to be indicated.

Authors are requested to use formats that maximize the accessibility and reusability of the data (for example, if using tabular data, a spreadsheet is suggested). If necessary, it is recommended to publish, along with the data, the algorithms or treatment pipelines that should be applied to said data for its correct interpretation.

Plagiarism Policy

The Journal of Regional Studies and the Labor Market publishes original, unpublished works written by authors who declare their authorship.

The journal considers the following practices to be plagiarism:

Direct plagiarism (failure to acknowledge authorship, minimal changes made to another's text, failure to use quotation marks to indicate borrowed material). Plagiarism through the improper use of paraphrasing. Plagiarism through the inappropriate use of quotation marks or failure to clearly identify paraphrased passages as such.

"Self-plagiarism" or "recycling fraud" occurs when a work's appearance is altered and it is presented as if it were something else entirely, or when the fact that the work is being recycled is omitted.

The journal implements procedures to prevent plagiarism practices—translations, fragmentation of results or "salami slicing," duplication, among others.

  1. Authors are requested to declare that the article has not been previously published or submitted to other journals for evaluation and to declare that the text is original.
  2. Reviewers are asked to pay attention to potential indicators of plagiarism, as they are familiar with the sources and literature on the subject.
  3. The RELMECS journal uses the iThenticate: Plagiarism Detection Software tool provided by the National University of La Plata through Crossreff.

If plagiarism and a false declaration are detected, the authors will be notified to provide an explanation or withdraw the submission within 10 days. If plagiarism is confirmed, the FAHCE Journals will withdraw the text, indicating "Excluded due to plagiarism" in the bibliographic record (if one exists).

Ethical Considerations and Conflicts of Interest

The publication of the Journal of Regional Studies and the Labor Market is the collective result of the work and effort of authors, editors, and reviewers who are committed to the advancement of science for social and cultural development. For this reason, and within the framework of the open access policy promoted by the National University of La Plata, the journal will not charge authors any publication fees, and articles will be immediately available in open access.

The journal editors are committed to avoiding any conflict of interest among those involved in its production. All submitted texts will be evaluated based on their intellectual content, ensuring that the authors' ethnic or national background, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or political philosophy do not interfere with the evaluation process. Similarly, external reviews that introduce any personal bias into the quality of the work will be rejected.

Authors and reviewers are asked to disclose any relevant conflicts of interest they may have in advance so that these can be considered when assigning reviews. If a conflict arises after publication of the contribution, a retraction or disclosure of the fact will be required, if necessary.

A “conflict of interest” is defined as a situation in which there is a divergence between an individual's personal interests and their responsibilities regarding the scientific activities they carry out, whether as an author, reviewer, or member of the editorial committee, which could influence their critical judgment and the integrity of their actions.

Conflicts of interest can be:

  • Financial: when the participant (author/reviewer/editor) has received or expects to receive money for activities related to the research and its dissemination.
  • Academic: when reviewers or editors adhere to a particular methodological or ideological approach in such a way that they may be biased in evaluating the work of others. For this reason, you are asked to disclose your intentions beforehand.
  • Personal or professional relationships: when participants (authors/reviewers/editors) have any type of relationship, whether friendship, enmity, or professional connection. To avoid this, editors should consider the authors' funding sources and affiliations in order to select reviewers who do not belong to those specific circles.

International Guidelines

The journal editors will consider internationally agreed-upon guidelines and best practices for addressing the specific challenges of scientific publishing. The guidelines provided by COPE | Committee on Publication Ethics will be given primary consideration. Guidelines from other internationally recognized organizations will also be taken into account. Authors, researchers, and reviewers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with international guidelines on publication ethics to avoid potential violations.
