Abstract

The problem of “living street”, i.e. the situation facing thousands of individuals and families now having to spend nights and days on the streets of the city, is a phenomenon increasingly evident in our country and the great cities of the world. The academic world has attempted an approach to this problem from multiple approaches and concepts, one of which is that of “social exclusion”. This concept born in Europe, in the eighties, after the crisis it experienced salary society, is taken up in Latin America in the 90’s. It is now widely used to understand the situations of extreme poverty and job insecurity. This article seeks to be an approach to certain aspects of the experience of “living street” through exploring the concept of social exclusion. This concept, which expresses the situation of the “excluded” from the social world, is reviewed from the case of street people who are generally regarded as the “excluded par excellence”.
